Mille Fontaines

Mille Fontaines is an inclusive literary magazine that publishes all styles and forms of art. Past editions have included poetry, prose, photography, painting, drawing, printing, music, and film, but the magazine is not limited to any of these mediums.

While English and French are the most common, submissions in any language are encouraged.

Every semester, the staff selects one French and one English word to serve as the theme of the edition. For our Sixth Edition we are excited to announce our chosen theme: Bonfire Bavardages!

To choose this semester’s theme, inspiration has been taken from the South African tradition of “braai.” Though simply meaning “barbecue” or “grill” in Afrikaans, the cultural significance of “braai” surpasses the cooking of meat over fire. It is about creating an experience and bringing diverse populations together. People from various backgrounds are given the opportunity to gather and share their stories. At ACM-IAU, we are in an unusual situation where our student body is drawn from all over the world to study together in a foreign country. Our hope here at Mille Fontaines, rather than centering our fireside chats on food, is that our focal point to bring this unique community together… will be art.

Pour choisir le thème de ce semestre, nous avons pris l’inspiration de la tradition sud-africaine de « braai ». Ça veut dire simplement « le barbecue » ou « le gril » en afrikaans, mais il y a une signification culturelle qui dépasse la cuisson des viandes au feu. Il s’agit créer une expérience et rassembler des populations diverses : des personnes issues de milieux différents ont l’opportunité de s’unir et partager leurs histoires. À ACM-IAU, nous nous trouvons dans la position inhabituelle d’avoir nos étudiants viennent du monde entier pour étudier ensemble dans un pays étranger. Notre espoir ici aux Mille Fontaines, au lieu de centrer nos bavardages au coin du feu autour de la nourriture, est que notre point de mire pour rassembler cette communauté unique… sera l’art.

Submissions are NOT required to fit the theme. The theme is not intended to limit the creativity of our contributors, rather to expand their focus and provide inspiration for those who want more direction.
